How Chris Phillips Built a Million-Dollar Business at Age 18

Chris Phillips is an English entrepreneur behind ‘Dot 5 Hosting’ and ‘Just Develop It.’ He was born in Portsmouth, England, and has been among one of the richest teenagers under 20.

As a serial entrepreneur and very well respected in the business world, Chris Phillips has been building, growing, and selling companies since he was 16 years old.

As a savvy-tech teenager, Chris Phillips made his first million dollars at the age of 18 through a football scores website he created. What he didn’t know as at then was that his idea would evolve into his first company, Dot 5 Hosting – an online hosting platform.

Now worth over $82 million dollars, his company was sold to iPower – the American hosting company. And currently, Chris Phillips is mainly involved in leisure, tech, investment projects, and retail and property across the United Kingdom, using his entrepreneurial prowess to ultimate use. His current focus is Protected.net.

He started his first business at 16 and “caught the entrepreneurial bug,” after selling it for millions of dollars just after two years. Although he started out in tech, he always believed that people superseded products anytime, any day, and that caused him to invest in other industries. So, he has been out, mainly to invest in the people involved in whatever business or venture that caught his attention.

In Chris Phillips’s words in an interview with the Business Leader Magazine in late 2017, he said, “Over the years, the opportunities I have had to invest in, or start a business have more often than not been down to the people involved.”

Surprisingly, he was actually dyslexic and didn’t really do well at school. But he had a huge love for the game of football and then decided to make a website that keeps scores, and he specially created it for himself and friends alone.

But he realized that he could actually create a company that hosts other websites and not have to pay websites some money for them to host his. So, he founded the Dot5 Hosting, sold the company, and made his first million all in just two years.

It wasn’t perfectly smooth for him, too, like all other entrepreneurs as he had his problems also. He faced a lot of problems with operations when he started. But like all entrepreneurs who made it and made it big, Chris continued to invest and learn. He said, “those failures have proved to be the biggest lessons I’ve learned.”

He firmly believes in immersing one’s self in each and every opportunity that we come across, as that is the only way, according to him to overcome a challenge.

He has also been a part of other ventures like the Xclusive jets which he tagged “incredibly exciting.”

His workers have confirmed his leadership prowess as one of his employees quoted, “He is an inspiration to many in the office and always makes himself available for advice and guidance should any of the team require it.”
